Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Lykins decided she wanted to be a dentist while she was an undergrad at University of Georgia. In the year between UGA and dental school, she worked as a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. She wanted enough flexibility to allow her to balance her career and family. Also, working with all different types of people was an absolute must. With all this in mind, dentistry easily became the top contender. Today, she still wouldn’t have it any other way – being able to help people feel beautiful and confident about their smiles is truly amazing.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
After attending the University of Georgia for her undergraduate degree, Dr. Lykins completed her dental doctorate at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She was a member of the Seattle Study Club for over a decade and has also trained to provide dental implant restorations (both removable and fixed) under the legendary Dr. Carl Misch of the prestigious Misch Institute. She is fully certified in dental lasers through the American Academy of Laser Dentistry. She is a current member of the following dental organizations:
- American Dental Association
- Georgia Dental Association
- The American Academy of Implant Dentistry
- The SPEAR Study Club.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Lykins and her husband have been married for over 20 years – they’re actually college sweethearts! They have three children together and are often very busy juggling their various activities. Their oldest is a senior at UGA, their son is on the OshKosh swim team, and their youngest daughter is finishing up high school. When there’s time outside of work and sporting/academic events, they regularly escape to their farm at Cartecay Vineyards to fish and hike. Depending on the time of year, she also enjoys water skiing, snow skiing, and playing tennis. During summer vacation, the whole family loves visiting various National Parks and hiking through the North Georgia mountains.
